I like necklaces.
I wear one every day.
I have a lot.
They hung from door knobs... over hooks...
and hangers everywhere.
The problem:
Organizing them.
The solution:
an easy to make necklace/bracelet organizer shelf.

My old organizing system was not working!

I made a two-tier shelf to hang all of those necklaces to keep them from tanging and for easy access.
John found a few pieces of wood trim in the garage and cut them to 40-inch lengths and nailed them together.
This simple design provided two levels to hang many necklaces in a small space and still keep them separated. A little sanding a couple coats of primer and paint and it is ready to add hooks.
I found large white upholstery tacks (from Lowe's) and nailed them about an inch apart across most of the shelf and a little further apart at the opposite end for wider bracelets.
My board used exactly 100 tacks (4 boxes of 25).
A place for everything and everything in its place!
sorry, Abbey, I had to say it (grin)

I intended to hang this on a wall in my walk-in closet but thought it
pretty enough to display in my dressing area with my necklaces right at my fingertips.

That is excellent. I have the same problem, will need to see if I can do the same. Thanks for sharing. Now can you invent something to organise my earrings? lol!
Absolutely beautiful! And so is your dressing area!
That is very pretty and really a great idea! I always notice your pretty necklaces in your photos. I hope yesterday was a big success for you - can't wait to hear about it!
Oh, LDH, that is a GREAT idea you came up with. Your husband helped a lot, too. Like you, I have a ton of necklaces. Wowsers. Mine are hung on the inside of my closet door by one of those accordian racks.
To tell you the truth, I have WAY TOO MUCH jewelry, thanks to yard and estate sales. I have a DRESSER where the earrings are organized in transparent plastic egg cartons. Same with bracelets and rings! ha ha ha! Cray-zee.
Your dressing area area is beautiful, absolutely neat and lovely. Thanks for sharing. Susan
Finally!!!! I have been trying to find a stylish solution for storing my necklaces. This is fantastic. It's practical and beautiful. Love it. It's going on my list of things to make. Kylie

What a great idea! Beautiful dressing area!
I am thinking that's one of those expressions that we're known for by our kids. Mine is ...5.00 is 5.00 or whatever dollar amount. Trying to teach the value of a dollar. :)
This is a great idea and the whole dressing area is lovely.
Your necklace organizer is a wonderful idea ~ you are so creative! Your dressing area is so pretty and the display looks right at home hanging in it.
That is genius!!!! I want one ;)
Great idea! What a beautiful "dressing area!"
Love, Lorraine
Love it! What a clever idea and it does look very pretty. Thank you for sharing.
This is exactly what I need! I am going to show this to my husband and we will build it together. Thank you for yet another great idea! Yours looks so good in your white room.
Thank you for your kind comment, mom says I have good manners for a terrier ;)
Thats a very good idea you have I don't wear necklaces being a dog an all, but I have a large collection of bandannys, say hi to Raider for me.
Have a good week

Love it. And your idea to hang it in the dressing room is perfect. I have to go back and forth between my closet and the mirror before I get it right. I'm already thinkng where to move mine although it's not nearly as pretty.
that was a great idea and it looks fantastic. I always used to have my necklaces in a small jewelry box and they would end up one big tangled mess
You are amazing! And that organizer is beautiful! Blessing!
Wow. that is so great. I need the same thing!
I have a linky party today. Would love it if you'd add this organizer!

That looks AWESOME!! And I LOVE your dressing area, SO pretty :D
What a fabulous idea. And so simple. It turned out well, and actually very artfully done. Looks fantastic. Ohhhhhhhhh, and I won't even begin to leave a comment about all your pretty necklaces.....just call me jealous.
My necklaces looks like your before (probably more tangled) what a clever idea and easy enough that I think I can do it. Keep thoses ideas coming.
Love it!!! Very creative and beautiful to look at!!! Oh and it makes me want to run out and buy some new necklaces!!
What a beautiful way to contain it all! Pretty pretty!
This idea is so much more practical than what I have going now, which is basically an over-crowded cork board. I will have to give this a try, especially since I've been adding tons of new necklaces to my site that I want to make!

Wondrous idea! I have mine hanging on mirrors, slung around vases, and in jewelry boxes, but that would make it much easier.
I love your idea. I think my daughter and I both need one.
Love it!
Gorgeous. I organized mine in an old picture frame and posted about it. It is like artwork that I love to look at every day.
I love this! I found it on Pinterest. I think I'll make this for my mom for Christmas!
...definitely inspired me to make something similar! thank you!!!
This is rather impressive...both the amount of necklaces you own, and the organizer! Necessity is the mother of invention! I'd be thrilled to have you come down and link up to the Head to Head Showdown, going on right now at www.icantstopcrafting.blogspot.com

Such a great idea. You are right, it looks perfect in your dressing area by your vanity! Happy New Year!
How did you hang it on the wall?
@Happily Married: We drilled two holes(diagonal upward)in the back and hung on nails.
I love it and it looks great too. Functional and beautiful. Imma gonna maka me one :)
Thank you for sharing...

This is really a cute idea. Having somewhere pretty to store your pretty things makes them all the more enjoyable.
I did want to let you know that your post has been stolen and published here. http://interests11.blogspot.com/2012/03/necklacejewelry-organizer.html
Most of the content on this blog seems to be stolen and I wanted to let some of the authors know. I stumbled across it through Pinterest this morning and recognized lots of the projects on the site.
Take care and have a good day!
